As a brand new, first time mom (my baby is 5 weeks old!), I’ve quickly learned how much the little things matter during postpartum.
The first few weeks after giving birth are such a whirlwind. While they are amazing, they’re also emotional, exhausting, and all of it comes at once. Thoughtful gifts can make a huge difference!
I was lucky to be given some really sweet and practical things that made me feel so cared for during those early days, and now I want to pass along the ideas.
If you’re putting together a gift for a new mom, a postpartum gift basket is such a special way to go.

You can fill it with things she’ll actually use and love. Whether it’s something cozy, something that helps her heal, or just a little treat for herself, she’ll appreciate the thoughtfulness for sure.

What to Put in a Postpartum Gift Basket
Whether you’re shopping for a friend, sister, or neighbor, this kind of gift is the perfect way to show a new mom that you’re thinking of her and cheering her on in this new season!
1. Ina May’s Guide to Breastfeeding
This book has SO many helpful tips for breastfeeding moms. Even as someone who has worked with a lactation consultant, I learned even more about breastfeeding to help my journey through this book!
Ina May is a well known midwife with years and years of experience. I also read her guide to child birthing book and it was great! It would make a great baby shower gift. For postpartum nursing mothers, the Guide to Breasting is the way to go.
2. Steadfast Motherhood | 60 Days of Abiding in Christ
Steadfast Motherhood is a 60 day devotional book for new moms! I have enjoyed having it and reading it when I need a little pick me up.
If you aren’t up for grabbing this one, any little devotional book is a fantastic idea to add to a new mother’s gift basket.
3. SOLELY Organic Fruit Jerky
New mothers always need a little snack break. These fruit jerky’s are great for adding to the basket because they add a little height to the appearance of the basket, and they taste delicious. A healthy, portable snack? Yes, please!
Want to try these fruit jerky’s for yourself? Grab this 12 pack of individually wrapped fruit jerky’s and put half in the gift basket and keep the rest for yourself.
4. Daisy Flower Hair Clip
Trust me, in those first few days of motherhood no one is wearing their hair down. A cute clip to help you achieve this is a fun way to spoil the mama!
Or, this initial clip is so personal and reminds me of something you’d find at Anthropologie. It’s a great Amazon find!
5. Facemask Sheets
These are inexpensive to buy but can give the new mom a bit of a spa treatment she can do at home!
Any little skincare item would work for the postpartum gift basket. The Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask Mini Hydrating Face Moisturizer is another favorite.
6. Vita Coco Coconut Water
I was given these while in labor to keep my electrolytes and hydration in check. I stocked up for home and have had one each day since delivery. They are great for keeping mama hydrated!
Because hydration is so key, I’d opt for some electrolyte packets in addition to the coconut water! This option below is my favorite as a new mom.
7. FlavCity Fruit Punch Electrolytes Powder Packets
Again, electrolytes are key postpartum. These packets are delicious are I’ve enjoyed having them. Sprinkle a few (or all of them) into the postpartum gift basket.
There are a ton of other FlavCity flavors available as well.
8. Nature Valley Creamy Protein Bars
I bought these protein bars for myself because they are so affordable and an easy snack! Throw these in the postpartum gift basket to help momma stay nourished.
Any favorite protein brand would work here. If you have a favorite, or you know the favorite of the mom you are gifting, grab that kind of protein bars!
9. RXBAR Protein Bars
For a bit of a more high quality protein bar, try RXBAR. These are just as tasty and have cleaner ingredients.
Now let me talk about something every mama needs but might now know to ask for. Dermoplast! This spray is such relief. It helped me tremendously and I’d definitely include it in any postpartum gift basket.
10. Dermoplast Pain, Burn & Itch Relief Spray
This stuff was golden for my postpartum journey. Spray it on your pad for relief during the first few weeks of healing.
Nipple cream is a postpartum essential if you are nursing. Include any brand, but the MotherLove is my go-to.
11. Motherlove Nipple Cream
For breastfeeding moms, they can’t have enough nipple butter. This ended up being my favorite and I highly suggest gifting it to a postpartum nursing mother!
If you need to fill up a little more space in the basket, chunky scrunchies are great. I received a few of these and it was a nice touch.
12. Satin Scrunchies
I use these all the time for holding my hair up! They are so comfortable and a great small little item to include in a postpartum gift basket.
Especially after getting so many gifts for baby, it is really nice to get gifts for myself as a new mama. If you’re thinking about gifting a postpartum basket, do it!
Final Thoughts
Putting together a postpartum gift basket is such a thoughtful way to support a new mom.
It doesn’t have to be fancy or over the top, even a few simple, useful, or comforting items can make her feel seen and cared for during a time that can be both beautiful and overwhelming.
These are all things I personally received and genuinely appreciated as a brand new mom, so I know they’ll be loved by others too.
Whether you’re dropping it off on her porch or bringing it to a hospital visit, this kind of gift is a small gesture that can make a big impact.
